Hello all,

I have a case when I want to use NRF 52833 with the Quectel BG95/96. But one of the projects requirements is to do an update over the air for the NRF application that I need to develop.

Is there any easy way to do that? If so, please let me know what the steps are. App will be written in Zephyr RTOS.

Hello,

I haven't tried integrating the BG95/96 module, so I am not completely sure how this works, but there are some old threads explaining how to integrate the same module. I also recommend you use the Quectel forum if you are struggling to interface with the same module.

 

And for the FOTA update, I think you can refer to this sample. Are you looking for anything specific? Please let me know, and I will share the references accordingly.

Thank you for the replay.

When it comes to the OTA, I will have modem and the nrf SoC (52833 or 52840). I will need to update my application and the modem firmware probably.

I would love to know how I can update my application over the air – it will be device that can be repaired manualy but it Is unwanted thing to do .

I will write the app in Zephyr.

Hello,

For updating the application over the air, you need to add DFU support to your application. You can refer to this blog post to do that. I also recommend you go through the SMP server sample. Read more about this here.

I assume you want to update your modem as well via OTA. For this, there needs to be support from the application. So as a starting point, try to implement the FW update of the application over the air, and then implement the modem update. For the modem update, you can refer to the http_full modem update sample.
