Troubleshooting macOS Notifications When Using JLink Firmware for NRF52840DK Development

I develop using Apple M3 paired with VS Code with nrf extension. The development board I use is NRF52840DK. When using JLink firmware with version number JLink_V796b, the macOS system keeps notifying 'macos did not eject disk properly' until I test with other development boards and downgrade the firmware version to 788j to restore normal operation.

I've not seen reports of this issue before, but it seems like a regression that may have been introduced in J-Link 7.96b. The current nrfjprog release has been tested and verified with v7.94e.

As a workaround, you may try to disable the mass storage class: https://docs.zephyrproject.org/latest/develop/flash_debug/nordic_segger.html#disabling-the-mass-storage-device-functionality

nrfprog usage should not have any issues, but during the installation of commandline, the accompanying Jlink, which comes with SEGGER Firmwares, may have problems, particularly when I'm using the nRF52840DK board.

When using the RTT feature in VS Code, JLINK796b requests an update of the JLINK FW. Once the update is successful, the problem arises.

I agree that the issue seems to be related to the latest J-Link release, which we haven't started using yet.

I had the same problem. My setups is Apple M2 macOS 14.4.1 and Nrf9160 development board with Jlink version V788j. 
Disabling mass storage removed notifications.

When installing with nRF Connect for Desktop, such an issue occurs. I suggest downloading an older version from SEGGER and redirecting the link to the older version of JLINK.

In J-Link Commander, entering "msddisable" can disable this feature and also provide a temporary solution on macOS.
