I have a question about nPM1100 ERR, CHG pin.

There was no problem when using the circuit below in the previous circuit,

After removing the USB part and changing the circuit as shown above, the input is that the CHG is disabled and charging is not possible as the ERR is activated. However, when I plugged in the charging cable and read the battery level, it seems to be charging.

Normal behavior is that ERR is disabled, and CHG should be activated/disabled when charging and discharging, but this is not the case.

Where should I look to find out the cause?

  • Hi,

After removing the USB part and changing the circuit as shown above, the input is that the CHG is disabled and charging is not possible as the ERR is activated. However, when I plugged in the charging cable and read the battery level, it seems to be charging.

The data signal pins for the USB peripheral needs to be in 1 of the possible configurations:

In the second configuration if D+ and D- is connected to a USB host then ISET should be grounded. It seems that you have instead routed it out? Is because you want to control the charging current externally?

So is it charging when you plug in the USB in the second configuration?

  • Hello.
The second configuration works normally without any problems.
The problem is that the first configuration does not charge.
The first configuration is when the limit set method is fixed 500mA.

  • Hello.
CHG, When ERR pin is connected to GPIO, should I apply PULL UP resistor, and connect Vterm pin to GND??
    3v - 4.7K

  • Hi,

VTERM should not be configured dynamically, it should either be set high or low depending on what level you want the termination voltage to be at.

ERR pin should be connected to a pullup at the MCU side if you connect it to a host.

I suspect that you are observing one of these erratas, can you try the workaround suggested and see if it fixes your issue?

[7] Charger: CHARGER gets stuck with no VBAT capacitor

[8] Charger: CHARGER gets stuck for certain types of PCM

Edit, I see that you have the 1 µ capacitor, try the suggested workaround in errata 8.

  • Hello.
I tried different types of Li-ion batteries and Li-Po batteries, but they all had charging errors.
Is there a solution to this??

VTERM and ISET pin are both HIGH, could this be a problem?

When I connected D+, D- to recognize USB, it worked normally when charging Li-ion.
