PPK2 firmware update done incorrectly

I have tried to use the power profiler and I got the notification that my firmware had to be updated.
I clicked proceed and the device started updating.

When the update finished, I heard the usb disconnect sound from windows.

Then it booted up and stated flashing green but windows says that the usb device is not recognized.

Looking at the device manager I can see that it failed to get a usb descriptor.
I tried an look for a binary to flash the ppk2 myself but I couldnt find any.

Can someone help me get my ppk2 back in working condition?
Thanks

  • Hi! I assume you are using the latest Power Profiler v4.2.0. Which Windows version are you using? This should normally not happen, could it have been interrupted during update? Have you tried using another USB cable, USB port, hub etc?

What you could do is to use the Programmer app in nRF Connect for Desktop. After opening, select the PPK2 unit and press "Add file". Browse and find the firmware at C:\Users\<your_user>\.nrfconnect-apps\node_modules\pc-nrfconnect-ppk\firmware and select pca63100_ppk2_1.2.0_97a781b

    Click Write.

After the process is completed, power cycle the PPK2 and try and connect it to the Power Profiler app again.

If this doesn't work, you can try to downgrade the Power Profiler app and accept when it prompts you to update the firmware and see if there's any issues with the new firmware for your computer. This you can do by selecting "Install other version" and select v4.1.3.

    Hope this helps!

  • Thank you for your response, I am using nrf connect 5.0.2 and power profiler 4.2.0.

I have reconnected the ppk2 just as I did yesterday and apparently it came good. Unsure how or what caused this.

I have looked into the folder to see the firmware and I will remember this for the next time it has gone bad.
