NCS VSCode stopped working

nRF Connect SDK with VSCode has suddenly stopped working.

Problems

1. When I try to create a new application by copying a sample, it says "no samples available".
2. When I try to add a new build configuration, it shows me the typical page, but when I try to select a board it says "no boards available".
3. When I try to build without selecting a board, nothing starts in the terminal and I also can't create any more build configurations.

What Works

1. Creating a new west workspace via command line
2. Compiling the application via west.

What I've Tried

• Removing and reinstalling
  • nRF Connect SDK
  • nRF Connect for Desktop
  • VS Code
• Removing all VS Code related files in
  • user/AppData/Local
  • user/AppData/Roaming
• Removing all nrfconnect / ncs folders form
  • user/AppData/Local
  • user/AppData/Roaming

But the problem persists. It started happening out of nowhere and now isn't going away.

Do you open the VSCode via the Toolchain Manager?

Do you get the same issues when you try this?

I opened VSCode with the Toolchain Manager, but the problem persists. It did not make any difference.

Please see the images attached.

The issue is similar to this and any fixes mentioned there were tried as well, but no good.

I suspect this issue also has something to do with Python, similar to mentioned in this issue: No boards found in nRF Connect for VS Code

I uninstalled Python from my PC and then re-installed VS Code, and it started working.

To remove VS Code properly I performed these steps after un-installing it from programs.

The issue on why Python is interfering with the extension is still open tho

Edit:

Feb 5th 2025, The issue has started again out of nowhere. And it also now shows "unable to find soc info" error.

I don't want to keep re-installing VS Code and doing these steps every 2 weeks :(
