Thingy:91X - Wireless Logic - claiming additional 45 MB pretty hard

I tried to claim the "additional 45 MB" for the Wireless Logic SIM included in the Thingy:91X delivery.

Unfortunately, the "claim code" seems to be only available via the printed QR code, and even more unfortunately, that QR code is printed in a too light grey.

That hardly works ;-).

I scanned it and tried to make the grey darker, so finally it works. But I would guess, quite a lot will fail.

  • Hello,

I just wanted to provide some clarity on this issue with claiming the additional 45MB on our Wireless Logic SIM. The challenge Achim experienced was specific to our first batch of 100 SIMs, where the QR code was printed on a sticker rather than directly onto the SIM. This has since been fully resolved, and all current and future Wireless Logic SIMs bundled with the Thingy:91X have the QR code directly printed in a way that ensures seamless scanning.

This means that when claiming the additional 45 MB, the ICCID and claim code will be correctly inputted into the relevant fields on the claim form without any issues.

Thank you for the feedback, we will also look to print the claim code directly on the SIM in the future as a backup, in case of any QR code issues or if you prefer to enter the details manually.

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention, and we appreciate the feedback!

    Kind Regards,

    Joseph

  • In my case it was no sticker. All 4 Thingy:91X came with a SIM without sticker but a light gray QR code.

  • We've verified that this QR scanning issue mainly occurs on some Android phones, as their native QR scanning can struggle in certain conditions. As a workaround, we recommend using an alternative app like Binary Eye, which scans the code quickly and consistently.

That said, future production runs will have improved QR code quality (darker print and better resolution), and we’re also looking to print the claim code directly on the SIM as a backup.

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention!

  • Yes, IPhone and Binary Eye on Android are able the process the QR-code, even in light grey. Thanks!
