Question about nRF54L15 QFN48 four layer PCB

Hi Nordic Team

We are developing products using the NORDIC NRF54L series chips, but we are encountering some hardware issues.

We have used the NRF52832-QFAA chip. Packaged type:QFN48,Reference design is TWO-layers PCB,

However, the NRF54L series, such as the NRF54L15-QFAA chip, Packaged type:QFN48, Reference design is FOUR-layers PCB.

1,Why did this design choose to use FOUR layers of PCB?

2,Since the overall structure of our product design is relatively thin, we would like to confirm whether the NRF54L series, QFN48, supports two-layer PCB ?

Could you provide a reference design for the hardware?

3,RF section

Below is NRF52832-QFAA QFN48 RF section

Below is NRF54L series-QFAA QFN48 RF section

Would you like to know the reasons for the addition of new components in the RF section of the design? Was the design of the RF part for NRF52832-QFAA still applicable to NRF54L QFAA?

If possible, could the RF part of NRF54L be further streamlined to better meet practical application needs, such as: FIND MY, BLE UART?

Waiting for your reply!

thanks!

  • Hi James,

To ensure good RF performance when designing PCBs, it is highly recommended to use the PCB layouts and component values provided by Nordic Semiconductor.: https://docs.nordicsemi.com/bundle/ps_nrf54L15/page/chapters/ref_circuitry.html#ariaid-title6

The radio on the nrf54L is very sensitive and using 4 layer PCB and the exact layout is recommended to achieve the performance noted in the product datasheet. There is no official two-layer reference design for nRF54L QFN48

Do not reuse nRF52832-QFAA RF designs for nRF54L QFAA. Always follow the nRF54L reference design for best results and compliance. The components in the RF section was finalized following multiple reviews for the best results. For applications like Find My or BLE UART, you should still use the provided reference design to ensure compliance and performance.

    Best Regards,
