pcb antenna guidelines for nrf52

Hi all

we are working on nrf52832 for our project. not sure if there is guidelines for pcb antenna. like limit on number of devices or any other certification we need.

Thanks

Capricorn

  • How would "limit on number of devices or other certification" relate to PCB antenna design? Each antenna development for 2.4GHz radio is careful process which depends on exact PCB properties as well as surrounding (where you mount it, what will be the casing etc.) - in case that you want to tune it properly with the right gain/sensitivity and direction characteristics. Things like how many connections can chip maintain on top of that antenna is purely property of the IC and SW stack running on it.

The certifications are strongly tight to the antenna but the flow is exactly opposite: you decide what kind of device you build, if it is commercial and if so then in which regions and what segments you target. Based on that you will see which mandatory regulations you need to pass and unless you ever went through each of them you definitely want to hire experienced consultant to guide you!

  • Btw. there is bunch of whitepapers from Nordic to help you with antenna design and certifications, but note that by simply reading them you won't get it right if doing this for a first time. This is not like to solder two wires, this require certain level of understanding how high-frequency radios work, how to simulate it using different SWs, how to test prototypes etc.

  • @endnode any region wise regulation list or can you provide me more reference regarding commercialisation of antenna.

  • Have you read the whitepaper? There is basic explanation of regional specifics. No offense but unless you went through such process at least once and if you represent business not hobby/non-profit project (if so then you probably don't need any certification at all!) then you want to hire a consultant to help you with whole compliance set-up process in your company. Every bigger certification lab typically offers such service or you can fish on LinkedIn and your other professional networks.
