Does nRF51-dk for use with external antenna require board modifications?

Do i need to cut the trace of the onboard antenna for this to work properly?

ie. not cause an impedance mismatch or compete with the onboard antenna.

  • Hi,

The nRF51-DK antenna is tuned for the nRF51-DK PCB. If you replicate it in a different PCB, the size, shape and layout will possibly require it to be tuned a little differently so it is always good practice to check it. It should still work to some degree, just not optimally.

    Best regards,

    Andreas

  • the question is not in regard to replicating the antenna on a different PCB....

Please let me attempt to clarify my question.

In order to use an EXTERNAL 2.4g whip antenna utilizing the mmcx connection on the nRF51-dk board, does the integrated PCB board trace antenna require cutting to use the external antenna via the on-board mmcx connector or is there a way to switch the nRF51422 antenna path to the external mmcx connector in code?
