ftdi spi cable C232HM with nRF51822-EK

The nRF51822-EK, when powered over USB, seems to be working on 3.0V. The C232HM SPI cable is a 3.3V cable. The nRF51 data sheet specifies VIO as VDD+0.3 as absolute maximum.

Is it safe to connect this cable to the evaluation kit without level shifter? Any positive/negative experience?

nRF51822 VDD range in normal mode is Min 1.8V , Typ 3.0V, Max 3.6V.

I use ftdi chips (FT232R - USB powered, Vout = 3.3V) with EK boards and no issues in more than a year.
