Automatic configuration of relay nodes in BLE mesh?

I read that in large networks that configuring the relay nodes helps achieve low-latency communication. With the nRF Mesh, is it possible to automatically switch off the relay functionality of certain nodes in order to prevent 'jamming' in a network with many nodes.
