Status of Android and IOS support of bluetooth 5.0 long range ?

Hi,

What is the the status of android and IOS support of bluetooth 5.0 long range ?

It would be great if you can give us a list of device that support long range (of course not exhaustive list)

I know that It can be checked by the API isLeCodedPhySupported() but we cannot afford buying all flag ship phone and discover they do not support long range

Hello, I wonder any update from anyone testing Coded PHY on Phone? I guess the only reason to ask this question should be how far the Phone can receive from nRF52840-DK for example, and the second question would be what is the TX power of Huawei or Oneplus 6 being discussed below.

We are in the process of testing the long range on the OnePlus 6. We have already checked on a Bluetooth Ellisys sniffer & have noticed that the OnePlus6 does send out coded phy packets, which is a start. We have also tested indoors, but have not noticed any big range differences between regular 1 mbps & coded phy. We are planning to do the same test outdoors soon & I will update this thread once I know more info.

Hi,
Any update about the outdoors test you've performed?  Did you check connection establishment as well (with coded phy, of course)?

Note that the rssi won't change/ won't change significantly when using the coded phy, so won't be the right indication for a greater range.

Hi, outdoors test has not been performed yet, connection establishment between a nRF52840 and a OnePlus6 on coded phy has been tested and that works.

Hi,

Were you also able to connect using a mobile phone that supports Coded Phy feature? Or just by another Nordic board as the central?

I am having difficulties to connect using a mobile phone (OnePlus6). If I do not use the coded phy advertising, then I can connect with no problem. But once the project is using the coded phy (not even my code, but Nordic's example...) I can't connect anymore.

I would appreciate it if you have any input that might help me :)

Yes, we tested connection on coded phy using a OnePlus6, please see Vidar's answer in this ticket.

1. Which project did you use for the test and/or what were the changes you've done in the project in order to test it? Maybe I am doing something wrong..

2. Which Android version do you have on your OnePlus 6?
