Is production testing using the nRF DK recommendable?

application note nAN-034 describes two alternatives for production testing an application using the nRF51822. One method is using a commercial tester (MT8852) and the other is using the development kit itself. Using the developemnt kit approach seems tempting from a cost perspective in particular if several parallel setups are needed. Has anyone real production experience using the development kit for production testing? Is it recommendable? What are the drawbacks compared to let's say MT8852?

  • Our production team went down the path of using the development kit for their testing. It seemed to work very well for them. We had a couple of development kits from our evaluation of the nRF51822 and it seemed reasonable to re-purpose them rather than have them sit on a shelf. I don't believe they had any significant hurdles using the development kit in this fashion.
