Can ble mesh proxy node be implemented in software way?

Look this picture, I'm wondering why proxy node is in the middle, not as a layer in ble program running on the smart phone?

As the text says, the whole point is to allow devices which do not support Mesh to access a Mesh network.

"does not support Mesh" means that you can't just do it in software!

On a mobile phone, "does not support Mesh" could mean:

• The hardware does not support it;
• The OS does not support it;
• Both of the above!

If it's just a matter of OS support, then you might be able to add support in software - but would probably have to "jailbreak" the device
