how to program nrf51822 prior to mounting on a PCB

Hi, I just finished prototype using nrf51822.   I programmed my part while it's mounted on my PCB.

I am preparing for mass production.  So I need to program the parts quickly before I mount the part.  I bought a standalone socket for the part,  How can I get a connector to connect my socket to the PC to program my part?

THanks.

John

  • Usually, it is done in-situ on the board as part of testing.

Your board manufacturer (or assembler, if different) should understand this.

Discuss with your chip supplier about having them preprogrammed.

3rd parties exist who will program chips and re-reel them for the assembly house. Again, talk to your supplier, and your assembly house for suggestions/recommendations.

Doing it manually in a socket is not a practical proposition!!

    Open mouth

  • Which connector do you have on your socket board ? Which JLINK programmer you have ?

What is the volume of the chips you are planning to program ?

If you are talking about thousands you may want to talk to 3rd party companies that provide production programming as Andrew suggested.

We usually suggest Hi-Lo and Elnec
