Sniffer version 2.0 Wireshark 3.x and Java 3.x

 Hello,

      Tried the 2.0 nRFSniffer hex file today. It does not show up in WireShark like

the Beta 3 version does, "nRF Sniffer COM6". Tried on two devices with the same result.

Went back to Beta 3 and it worked again, using pca10040 hex file.

 

    We need to match the Java version of WireShark since we have a custom protocol decoder,  So for WireShark 2.x the Java is 2.x. For WiresShark 3.x, the Java used is 3.x.

The nrf_sniffer.py does not run with Java 3.x.

Have you seen this issue, or would you have a work around?

We are not quite sure what problem you have due to the java version, maybe you can elaborate a bit. The nRF sniffer should work with Wireshark 2.6.

Here are more details:

Customer is able to get the Java 2 to execute with nrfsniffer.py file.

They are using Windows 10 Thinkpad T560.

Attached are two screen shots. One with sniffer beta 3 loaded and the other with 2.0 loaded.

The interface in Wireshark is found on beta 3 but not 2.0. This is not a Java issue yet, just having

the dongle recognized as a source of Bluetooth packet input by wireshark. The LEDs blinking on the

pca10040 look exactly the same as when beta 3 is running, it is just not recognized by the system.

Have they followed the description in the user guide on required software?

Edit: I just learned there may be some issues in the latest release v2.0.0, but there is a thread here that may help:

Seems like the actual problem is that the v2.0.0 release is missing some files compared to the v2.0.0 beta 3 release, it should be possible to re-use the missing files from beta 3 (or check out the above links). The 2.0.0 release of the nrf sniffer the following files/folders are missing

• Wireshark profile
• Segger jlink install files

Hi Kenneth,

Unlike the situation described in the links, we have a working WireShark setup.

 

               The only thing we are changing is the v2.0 code on the dev board. 

 

               Then the COM port does not come up.

 

   customer verified they are not missing the files/folders mentioned.

I am waiting for an internal release candidate next week, I suggest to wait for that before doing anything more on this case.
