Connecting to nrfcloud with SIM from another vendor

I connected to nrfcloud using a SIM card from iBasis and the asset tracker example.

Is it possible to connect to nrfcloud using a SIM card from another vendor? (in my case Telenor) When running the asset tracker example with the Telenor SIM card, led 3 blinks indefinitely, and the LTE Link monitor looks like this:

    There should not be any difference between iBasis and Telenor SIM. Did you power cycle between change? Can you please try to run the AT Clint and give me the output from LTE Link Monitor?

  • Thank you. Yes, the first one was Telenor, this is iBasis.
    With iBasis, the Modem, UICC, LTE and PDN bars all turn green after the second "AT+CFUN?" command. With Telenor, only the Modem bar turns green.

  • Ok, so from what I'm seeing there seems to be an issue with your Telenor SIM card.
    AT+COPS from the iBasis SIM indicates that it connects to Telenor: +COPS: 0,2,"24201",7 where 24201 is the MCCMNC (mobile country code and mobile network code) for Telenor.

    Can you please leave AT Client running for about 5 minutes with Telenor SIM after issuing AT+CFUN? to see what happens. This may give us more information about what is going on.

  • I suggest contacting Telenor and ask for a new SIM to be used for LTE-M. Please verify that the SIM can be used for this purpose.
