nRF9160 HARD FAULT Current thread ID = 0x20021f4c

Hello:

    I enabled LTE and GPS in my project and I encounterd a terrible hard fault error.

    The error didn't happed once I programmed my hex file.

    It work fine but hard fault accur two days later.

    I can't recover it even reprogram it with normal hex file such as at_client.hex.

    Finally the hard fault solved after I update "mfw_nrf9160_1.1.0.zip". 

    PS. The original modem firmware is  "mfwnrf9160100.zip" on the hard fault devices.

I used NCS tag v1.0.0 and modem firmware V1.0.0 (mfwnrf9160100.zip).

Issue accur in this enviroment.

Reflash any .hex file to nRF9160 will report this HARD FAULT.

Only way to fit is is to reflash modem firmware v1.1.0(mfw_nrf9160_1.1.0.zip)

But I don't want to update to modem V1.1.0 currently because part of our product is modem V1.0.0 already.

Can you tell me why it happen and how to solve it without update modem firmware to V1.1.0?

Have you updated to version 1.1.0? Note that it is not possible to downgrade. 

There are several bugs found in modem version 1.0.0, which can cause the hard fault you are seeing. We strongly advise updating the modem FW to v1.1.0, and to NCS v1.1.0 as this includes several bug fixes as well.
