Thingy 91 problems in nRF cloud and with connecting to network

I am sorry but this is totally BS. I just got the Thingy 91 and it does only problems...

I have no problem using a full day on getting stuff like that to work, but please don't put videos of some idiots getting this to work in 2 min, I feel like I am a totally moran not getting it to work. I strongly recommend removing all video guides that simply tell a lie about this dev board...

For my question:

1. I simply can get it to connect with the provided SIM card. I am in Denmark so it should work, it simply blinks all the color all the time and does not connect. (I have used other NBiot in my house, so I know it should work)

2. Even after doing all this *** with updating to the long AT command in order to put a new JSON certificate and so on I still get this shitty message on nRF cloud that the device can not be found! What to do? Do I have to get Thingy 91 to connect 1st?

I have worked with other NBiot modules, such as SIMcom from China and I was really hoping for some quality from Scandinavian when buying this module, but not only that it does not work, it is totally false advertised! I feel violated.

Please help.

  • Hi Noam,

I am sorry to hear that you had a bad experience when getting started with the Thingy:91.

However, that does not justify the profound language in your post, please try to avoid that in your answers.

I can understand that you are having issues getting connected to the NB-IoT network, this is because the iBasis SIM card does not yet support this network in your region.

I recommend that you acquire a local IoT SIM card from one of your major operators that supports LTE-M or NB-IoT.

I recommend that you connect a USB to Thingy:91 and open the LTE Link Monitor in nRF Connect for Desktop to use it as a serial output terminal:

(This will help you to see the different console outputs from the application. e.g. you may see why you cannot get a connection etc.)

Please uncheck "Automatic requests" and "Auto device/port filter":

Turn OFF the Thingy:91 and turn it ON.

    Then select the correct port:

You should now be able to get out some log information from the application:

    e.g.

You need to be connected to a network to be able to pair the Thingy:91 to nRF cloud as well.

(That is the reason you get the error code on the website.)

    Best regards,

    Martin L.
