just got my Thingy:91 out of the box and followed the instruction.
Very surprised that the device could not connect (blue led flashing slowly every 5sec). I'm in Geneva Switzerland about 500m from the next Swisscom 4G antenna.
What should I do now?
This is very unpleasant as the presentation showed something "so easy to evaluate".
Now I guess I have to buy a special SIM card from Swisscom and be only inside the city-center?
Thanks in advance for your support
Well I tried to contact Swisscom without success.
I do have other SIMcard in hand but how to change APN in the modem?
Also I don't have PUK on these SIM cards so how shall I register these unit on the nrf cloud?
Hello, I'm sorry to hear that it is not working for you.
What instructions did you follow? And at what point did it fail?
Very surprised that the device could not connect (blue led flashing slowly every 5sec)
Can you please provide more information from the LTE Link Monitor. This should include more information on what is failing when trying to connect.
Blue LED indicates that it's receiving "Environmental Data Only" according to the Thingy:91 User GuideThank you!
Thanks for the information! The first thing I see is that you should update the modem FW.
On iBasis Network Coverage overview, Switzerland is noted with "Limited Coverage". Not sure what this means. Please contact iBasis support or contact SwissCom contact person: Tommy Bertling tommy.bertling@Swisscom.com (From GSMA Deployment map)Kind regards,Øyvind
In order to update modem firmware, I need to buy another tool? Not possible to do it from the USB port?
If this is the only solution then I better ship the device back and ask for refund...
Ok, if you are not able to update, then we have to find another way. You should not have to refund your device.
Ivan said:network is found but no connexion ?
Yes, the image does indicate that your device does find the network. Difficult to say why it does not connect. I would suggest contacting iBasis and Swisscom. In the meantime, I will investigate the issue and see if I can find a solution.Kind regards,Øyvind
Is there no serial bootloader in your chip?
or FOTA ?
or BLE bootloader?
Thanks again for your support
We are constantly working on improving modem updates. Currently, the provided solution is the only method to update the modem FW. On the application side, we do have several ways of updating e.g. Updating application firmware on nRF9160 using USB (MCUboot).
That said until we find the solution, we have to try everything. Your device does find the network. Did you contact iBasis and Swisscom (email provided) as instructed?
Yes I sent an email to Swisscom M.Bertling) but no reply so far.
I will try update via serial but I need the hex file. Where can I download it?
thanks in advance

Our precompiled firmware is available in the download section of Thingy:91.
These files were built with nRF Connect SDK version v1.1.0

Let me know how it goes!Kind regards,Øyvind
Hi Ivan, I've forwarded your case to our modem team. Looks like there might be an issue with iBasis and SwissCom network. Awaiting confirmation.Kind regards,Øyvind
Hi Thanks for following.
I've been busy on meeting whole day. I'll try to upgrade firmware tomorrow.
How can we change APN in the device? If I want to use another SIM...
Thanks in advance
Ivan said:How can we change APN in the device? If I want to use another SIM...
APN can be configured in modem using the AT command AT+CGDCONT. But please wait until instructed to do so. Kind regards,Øyvind
