nrf9160dk - There was an error adding your device: nRFCode 40102

Please note about 9 days ago another user reported similar problem but is his case LED3 and LED4 were blinking. In my case after reset I see LED 3 blink and then about 30 seconds later LED 4 is on permanent. I am NOT getting the LED3+LED4 blinking phase.

I am trying to add the DK to my nRF cloud account and I get the following error message: "There was an error adding your device: nRFCode 40102: Ownership code [HWID] is invalid for device [DEVICE ID]." .

I am running the DK with 'nrf9160dk_asset_tracker_ltem_2020-04-29_bc7ade8b' firmware, and the 'mfwnrf9160120' modem.

I have updated the device's certificate which was generated in my nRF account, using the certificate manager in LTE Link Monitor.

I thought I may have generated a wrong certificate so I created a new one and downloaded to my DK a second time.

I stress I have now generated the certificate for this devkit twice and loaded into the device twice successfully

The device has LED4 on permanently and just can't add it to the cloud.

My board is version 0.8.2.

Also note that I have another DK which is version 0.9.0 and that I managed to successfully add to the cloud and can see the data come through.

Look forward to hearing from you

Mahendra

  • Sorry for the confusion.

Please open a new ticket regarding the iBasis SIM. That is out of scope for this ticket regarding the connection to nRF Cloud.

Keeping on with this ticket, you will need to open LTE Link Monitor again and then look at what is printed in the output.

If both LED (LED3 and LED4) are blinking, and the output states:

    020-08-19T14:03:27.088Z DEBUG modem << [00:00:07.905,700] [0m<inf> asset_tracker: CLOUD_EVT_PAIR_REQUEST[0m
    2020-08-19T14:03:27.090Z DEBUG modem << [00:00:07.911,956] [0m<inf> asset_tracker: Add device to cloud account.[0m
    2020-08-19T14:03:27.092Z DEBUG modem << [00:00:07.918,762] [0m<inf> asset_tracker: Waiting for cloud association...[0m

Then login to nrfcloud.com and click add LTE device. Once connected, only LED4 will be on and static.

If only LED 3 is blinking, that means that it is still connecting to the network. Please ensure good coverage.

  • Hi
I understand better. However, given that I have two DKs and so two iBASIS sims and I have one DK working fine with nrfCloud, I tried both sims on the working board and it all works both times.

From that I will conclude that both my sims are working. So I am not sure how creating a new ticket is going to help me.

  • Hi Oyvind

Just a few minutes ago I finally managed to get it to work.
Thank you for all your help.
Suspiciously the only thing different I did this time was to send an email to the person who I think could have registered in his account.
In addition, for the first time I also managed to see LED3 and LED4 blink at the same time. Never seen that before, even when I was playing with the first board

I will leave you alone now :-)
