Cant connect to network operator

I have been trying to connect to 4G using iBasis and other vendor's SIM card but have not been successful.

I have the nrf9160 DK two years ago and have been sparsely trying to get it up and running for some time. I remember that when I began testing it (a bit over two years ago) the board connected to the 4G network but for some time now it doesnt.

I found this tutorial online: https://jimmywongiot.com/2019/05/09/quick-overview-to-run-sample-example-on-nrf9160-dk-board-with-nrf-cloud/

It states that I may have deleted a secret key that enables the device I am using to connect to the network. Would that be it? If so, how do I recover my device?

If that is not the issue, then I need some help to get the device to connect to the network (It cant even find any operators using AT+COPS? )

  • Hi Daniel,

I do not think that the issue stated in the blog post is the issue.

So could you give me your log from the LTE Link Monitor when you test the AT Client.

in the lower left of the program there is a button that  will provide you whit the log file. (See picture below)

Also what SIM card are you using and have you activated the SIM?

Currently according to the IBasis website, NB-IoT and LTE-M is not supported in Brazil.

Here is a link to the GSMA Deployment map, the operators listed here should provide a SIM that will work.

  • I am not currently in Brazil, I am in Venezuela. In concrete, what is the question I should ask to my GSM operators to know if I can use this device in Venezuela?

The app cant access the log file for some reason, let me try to fix that problem and get back to you with the log.

  • Hi

The GSMA deployment map, https://www.gsma.com/iot/deployment-map/, shows where NB-IoT and LTE-M is available. If you location is not listed there then I do not think that you will be able to connect your device.

The question that the cell provider should answer is if they support NB-IoT or LTE-M on their network at your location.  Or ask them when they will provide such services.

Are you using the mac? if so then you should be bale to find the log file under, /Users/nordic/Library/ApplicationSupport/nrfconnect/pc-nrfconnect-linkmonitor/logs and open the file this way.
