BLE Sniffer for Taiyo Yuden EBSKJN (nRF52840)

Dear Nordic colleague,

I'm trying to build BLE sniffer with Taiyo Yuden EBSKJN(w/ RF52840) on windows10 64-bit PC.
I set it according to the latest instruction manual(nRF_Sniffer_BLE_UG_v3.2) and all the setting results are normal,
but nRF Sniffer tool bar is gray out, Wireshark capture display doesn't appear nRF Sniffer interface.
Do you have any available information to resolve the problem ?

Details are below.

The firmware hex file is sniffer_nrf52840dk_nrf52840_7cc811f.hex,
Wireshark is version 3.4.3, python is version 3.9.
After setting, I can select View > Interface Toolbars > nRF Sniffer for Bluetooth LE in menu bar.

J-link Lite is used to connect to the device.

There is no error in Device Manager of the PC, and I was able to write a Hex file using nRF_Connect_Programmer on the same PC.
So, I think there is no problem in connecting to device.

Thanks,

  • Hello Amanda-san,

The procedures you mentioned were carried out two days ago already.

By the way, BLE sniffer has normally started using the lower version of development kits and dongles.
It seems not to start BLE sniffer by combination of the latest software version in my opinion.
I used software version as follows.
     - nrf_sniffer_for_bluetooth_le_3.0.0_129d2b3
     - Wireshark 3.4.0rc1
     - Python 3.9

    Please close this thread.

    thank you for your cooperation.

Sorry, I don't understand this. What is the lower version of development kits and dongles?

Do you see a series of strings, similar to what is shown in the screenshot in the Installing the nRF Sniffer capture tool doc after typing nrf_sniffer_ble.bat --extcap-interfaces?

Are you able to try another version nrf_sniffer_for_bluetooth_le_3.1.0_7cc811f and Python like v3.7 or 3.8?

  • Hello Amanda-san,

I write answers in your comments.

    >>What is the lower version of development kits and dongles?

    sniffer_pca10056_129d2b3.hex

    >>Do you see a series of strings, similar to what is shown in the screenshot in the Installing the nRF Sniffer capture tool doc after typing nrf_sniffer_ble.bat --extcap-interfaces?

Yes. I saw similar strings both when the installation was successful and failure.

    >>Are you able to try another version nrf_sniffer_for_bluetooth_le_3.1.0_7cc811f and Python like v3.7 or 3.8?

Sorry. I can't try it because I have sent the all of sniffer equipmets to my customer's test enviroment.

    Thanks,

Do you mean the nrf_sniffer_for_bluetooth_le_3.0.0_129d2b3 can run the sniffer on the same PC without any issue?

Was the installation successful on the PC? If it is failed, are you able to provide the log?

    Yes. On the same PC.

Yes it was. My previous description was incorrect. An installation failure was in my company's matter. Exactly, I saw similar strings both using nrf_sniffer_for_bluetooth_le_3.1.0_7cc811f and using nrf_sniffer_for_bluetooth_le_3.0.0_129d2b3 after typing nrf_sniffer_ble.bat --extcap-interfaces.

    Thanlks,
