Long Range + Direction finding

Hello

Trying to get the idea of whether the Long Range and Direction finding could be used simultaneously with the devices capable of both features.

Googling Long Range I realize that it requires a Special Coded PHY to be utilized at both ends and also the longer range is achieved by lowering the speed to 125kb/sec.  On the other hand, the direction finding requires extended advertisement (besides antenna switching at the respective side). Apparently, the extended advertisement does require a higher bit rate which to fit into transmission slots, and that defies the possibility of low rates such as 125kb/sec

Is my understanding correct or I'm wrong? Can both features be used simultaneously on enabled devices?

Thank you

Alex

  • Thanks a lot, Dmitry. I'm quite a novice in BT (I'm mostly a hardware guy, coming to RF and BT in particular recently learning), not sure understood all the protocol-related things you discussed in that thread, but what I gather from that is so far these features are mutually exclusive in the scope of BLE. Perhaps in some future, it could be combined though with new BLE versions

    Did I get it right?
