nRF5340 - sensitivity and ADDR0

Hi support team,

It is an old question but we would like to understand why

"Typical sensitivity applies when ADDR0 is used for receiver address correlation. When ADDR[1...7] are used for receiver address correlation, the typical sensitivity for this mode is degraded by 3 dB"

  • Hi Salas,

The nRF52/53 has two demodulators, one is called by the designers as "hypermode" and is used to get better sensitivity. This demodulator is only available on pipe0. I don't have any more details for you, and there may also be some design secrets they want to not share. I think "hypermode" use some "tricks" to find the address in noise.

    Best regards,
    Kenneth

  • So we ran into this same issue. We have upto 3 connections to a node in our application . 1 as a Slave and 2 as a master.  When only one node is connected we get about 2x the range as when 2 or 3 nodes are connected.  Guess part of the answer to this range issue is the reduced sensitivity for Addr1...7 as compared to Addr0

Just wanted to know if this is possible.  The scheduler should know what is the next state of the radio ( if it is going to be the Rx, it would know the address of the node it is looking for ) . Can this be used to program the correct MAC address in the ADDR0 such that all the nodes get the benefit of the improved sensitivity ?
