"Error 'AT' timed out".

I've just received a nRF9160 DK.

I've installed nRF Connect v3.6.1 and LTE Link Monitor.

I select the device (3 serial ports are shown). I press reset button and the terminal shows that the application is started.

I introduce AT, AT+CFUN? and AT+CFUN=1 commands but always receive the same message: "Error 'AT' timed out".

What's the problem?

    Can you provide some more information i.e. what sample you are using? What other error do you get? What do you receive in LTE Link Monitor?

  • Hello, and thank you for providing this information. From the logs I see that you are programming img_fota_dfu_hex/nrf9160dk_asset_tracker_nbiot_2021-03-01_8e8c6089.hex, can you please try with img_app_bl/nrf9160dk_asset_tracker_ltem_2021-03-01_8e8c6089.hex instead?

    From the logs it states that you have Model: NRF9160_xxAA_REV2, where AA indicates LTE-M only. Please verify.

    its able to work on AT commands, but the sim is not connecting to LTE network. I am testing this from INDIA, so not knowing whether it works.

  • Thanks for providing this log. Good to see that you were able to get it running. 

    From the log I see you have the correct device, nRF9160-SICA, which supports both LTE-M and NB-IoT. That said, according to GSMA, India does not have LTE-M coverage, only NB-IoT. What SIM are you using to connect? If using iBasis, please try with another local vendor that supports NB-IoT, as I believe iBasis does not support the Indian network yet.

  • We have had customers who were able to connect the Jio Network. 

    The asset tracker is trying to connect LTE-M network, did you try with NB-IoT? Recommend reading the documentation on the AT commands that the Asset Tracker returns i.e. +CEREG.

    Please reprogram the device with a precompiled image from the precompiled FW package i.e. img_app_bl/nrf9160dk_asset_tracker_nbiot_2021-03-01_8e8c6089.hex

    Or change XSYSTEMMODE to NB-IoT supported. Remember to set modem function to flight mode

    did you find any success with JIO any findings in terms of changes required in Asset tracker example.
