Could nRF52833 support matter?

nRF52840 can support matter (BLE + Thread).

My question is nRF52833 support matter too?

If 52833 don't support matter, Is there any reason?

(As I know, 52833 share SDK with 52840, but 52833 have a half memory comparing with 52840...)

Hi Geoworks,

You have noticed the main limitation. nRF52833 DK RAM and flash memory requirements show memory occupation by BLE + Thread stacks, the left resources are too less for Matter + your own application.

Hi Charlie. In case we are using the nRF52833 as a network co-processor in addition with a Linux host processor to make a Gateway device, can we support matter in that case ?

Does the ZBOSS NCP host package includes (or will include) the support of Matter (using nRF82833 or 52840) ?

Hi Thierry,

The Matter NCS architecture can basically explain your two questions.  The Matter protocol is a kind of application-level protocol on top of Thread and BLE(mainly for commissioning) protocols, so

You can use nRF52833 as Thread NCP for your Matter project.

 No, Matter protocol is created by Project CHIP(Project Connected Home over IP), Zigbee is not IP based, so Thread is chosen.

Thanks Charlie for your quick answer. You are right, ZBOSS is only Zigbee. In fact the question is : will you provide a linux package to run Matter on the host in addition with the Thread stack in the nRF52833 ? Or will we have to work with packages from different manufacturer to have a Matter solution ?

Matter protocol is running on smart home accessory products. It sounds like you are developing a Thread Border Router, then you need to refer to OpenThread Border Router. 

I also want to remind you that Matter is still at its early age, please keep following the updating information from Matter (buildwithmatter.com) and project-chip/connectedhomeip.
