Thingy91 unable to progress past the update firmware step

Hello,

I am stuck on the step of getting the Thingy91 to start working.

I am following this tutorial: https://www.nordicsemi.com/Products/Development-hardware/Nordic-Thingy-91/GetStarted

I uploaded the Modem firmware with the nRF programmer, followed by the MCU firmware. However, no LED lights are turning on for the Thingy91

I tried to go back to upload the modem firmware again, but when I press the modem's button and turn the device on, I can't find the device, and I am unable to reflash the modem's firmware. The device does not appear on the programmer.

I'm not sure how to proceed from this step.

nRF52 firmware: thingy91_asset_tracker_ltem_2021-06-28_7a076c22.hex

modem firmware: mfw_nrf9160_1.3.0.zip

Thank you

  • Hello again,

I have tried to reproduce the behaviour you are experiencing, but I’m unfortunately not able to do so.

Your iBasis SIM card should work at your location and we have to figure out why the network is rejecting your device.

Maybe we should go one step backwards in the firmware version and check if that makes any difference.

Could you please update your Thingy:91 with the firmware in this package?

Please update both the application, modem and Connectivity bridge firmware.

    Thanks and regards,

    Markus

  • Hello Markus, thanks for sticking with this so far!

I just got a new SIM card from iBasis and starting from the point we left off the last time, I stuck the SIM card in and it... worked.

iBasis said that the card was deactivated because it was not used in a long time - my package indicates that it was made in 2020. Perhaps it would be useful to put a note in the Getting Started page so that people know to ask for a new iBasis SIM card.

    I really appreciate your help.
