NRF52840 Thread CLI overlay-usb.conf

I am using the nRF 52840 development kit to explore Thread.  I am using the 'open nRF Connect SDK' command to get the project.  I would like to use the 'overlay-usb.conf' option so that I can access the cli via the USB connection using the 'serial' app on the mac.

I am running on  mac M1, Big Sur.

Segger 5.50c.

configure is as shown below.

the creation fails with:

I clearly don't understand how to configure the overlay.

Hi, 

Are you able to open the project without the overlay-usb.conf?

Please provide the output message on SES after your press "OK" on the Cannot create project window.

May have replied incorrectly...

Without the overlay, I can build and run the program as expected.

After pressing "OK" I get the screen:
