Some related questions about the data transfer rate using NB-IOT.

The questions of data throughput:

1. nRF9160 supports SIM card for data transmission through NB-IOT, so what is the data transfer rate using NB-IOT?

2. Including data upload and downl, is the data transmission rate the same? If not, what is the difference?

3. What are the factors that affect the data transmission rate?

If I need to perform data transmission on the move, it will involve the issue of base station handover:

1. If it moves too fast, can it cause base station handover to fail? What is the maximum moving speed supported by the handover base station?

2. Will moving too fast cause unstable data transmission and how much impact does this have?

  • Hello,

    1. nRF9160 supports SIM card for data transmission through NB-IOT, so what is the data transfer rate using NB-IOT?

From our nRF9160 Product Brief, the numbers for NB-IoT are (DL/UL): 30/60 kbps

    2. Including data upload and downl, is the data transmission rate the same? If not, what is the difference?

     See above.

    3. What are the factors that affect the data transmission rate?

I would recommend reading the GSMA NB-IoT Deployment Guide.

    1. If it moves too fast, can it cause base station handover to fail? What is the maximum moving speed supported by the handover base station?

We do not recommend using NB-IoT with a moving device.

    2. Will moving too fast cause unstable data transmission and how much impact does this have?

    See above.

Your local RSM should be able to provide more information about the nRF9160.

    Kind regards,
