SMP sever example for FOTA using nrf52840 dongle

Hi, 

I am trying out the FOTA feature on the nrf52840 dongle. I managed to build the SMP server example and flash it using mcugr. However when i reset the device, i can't find the zephyr advertisment from the BLE. Not sure what went wrong?

Note: I am using Zephyr, nrf connect 1.5.1.

My suspicion is that you haven't confirmed the new uploaded image. If you don't do that, mcuboot will revert it back on the next reset. You can confirm it/mark it as OK in some different ways

• Run boot_write_image_confirmed() from within the uploade image, like it's done in the http_update sample
• Confirm it through mcumgr using the mcumgr confirm command

By the way, how do you program the 52840 dongle in the first place? Do you use an external debugger, or do you use the bootloader that it's shipped with (read more about that in the 52840 dongle tutorial)?

I used this line here and replace image upload file with app_update.bin 

Basically, i just followed the tutorial here. I tried this with the blinky example and it works but not the smp_svr example

If I recall correctly, the dongle goes into DFU mode when the reset button is pressed and that's why you can't see it advertising. I don't have any dongle at hand right now, but I will when I get to the office on Monday and will test myself then.

By the way, you can just use the Programmer app to program the dongle, it is much simpler. Check out the 52840 dongle programming tutorial for instructions:

Yes, the reason it won't advertise when you press the reset button is because the dongle will then run the Nordic bootloader and enter DFU mode.
