Removed metallic cover of nRF9160 SiP

Hi,

We tried to remove a component that was glued to the top of the nRF9160 SiP and accidentally removed a bit of the SiP's metallic covering (see pic attached). Our guess is that the metallic cover might be there for EMI/EMC protection but we'd like to confirm if removing this film has damaged the SiP?

Thanks,

Robert

  • Hi Robert

The SIP should work fine despite a bit of the covering going off. The nRF91 chip itself and the various passive components are covered in epoxy, and it will take more damage for them to be affected.

    Best regards
    Torbjørn
