BLE Audio SoC support

With the release of the Bluetooth 5.2 standard, also came the introduction of BLE Audio.

Since I am evaluating a SoC for bluetooth headphones, I stumbled upon the fact that according to the datasheet not all Bluetooth 5.2/5.3 certified SoC support BLE Audio (currently only the nRF5340). Is that truly the case?

If it is, is there a way to determine if a SoC supports BLE Audio even if it is Bluetooth >=5.2 "certified"? Or is it similar to the USB-C and HDMI standard where the version itself does not directly correlate to the available functions?

Thank you in advance for the reply

Yours sincerely

  • Hi Steven,

We currently provide audio solution based on nRF5340. In order to have LE audio running on the chips like nRF52, you would need to use third party solution.
There is no document which states which SoCs support BLE audio just by knowing their certification status. You would need to look at each SoC's datasheet separately.

    Best regards,
    Dejan
