Hi,

Is there any tutorials or examples avaialble for adding DFU service? I would like to add DFU service for my application. I am using nRF52840 development board with S140 softdevice.

The relevant documentation that describes how to add buttonless DFU to the application is found here, and there is an example in this post.

Thank you for your response and sorry for belated response.

As I am developing a peripheral device with custom service, I would like to add the dfu service along with this custom service. Is it possible? 

where should implement the service, is it inside my application along with my custom base UUID?

You can start from the bootloader. See DFU protocol.

I have deleted my previous post because I made the mistake in my code that is without initializing the peer manager I have started with service_init(). I found the issue and it solved but when I continue with debug by following your instruction in the post (nRF52 DK Failed to add BLE OTA DFU to the example project ble_app_uart - Nordic Q&A - Nordic DevZone - Nordic DevZone (nordicsemi.com)) I am getting following error.. Is this usual error? I meant when I add with bootloader does it solve?

When I added bootloader this problem solved. also I required to update the sdk_config.h in nrf_bootloader with the following 

#ifndef NRF_DFU_BLE_REQUIRES_BONDS
#define NRF_DFU_BLE_REQUIRES_BONDS 1
#endif

while my dfu required bonding...

Now it is compiled successfully without any error but I am not getting the DFU symbol on my nrf connect desktop. How can it happen? I followed the exact steps which you have suggested.

Many thanks for your updates. I followed the same instructions but still the dfu icon not showing. what I done is I replaced the buttonless dfu service with my custom dfu service (similar to buttonless ) and custom characteristics. it is compiled successfully and advertise my application also. But for the dfu trigger, dfu icon not showing in my app...what would be the possible cause of this issue?

Hi Amanda, 

The DFU Icon not coming in my app, but when I write 01 (by enabling cccd) on the custom characteristic it automatically switched to dfu mode and I could update dfu (enabling cccd packet update chara) now. Do we expect this same behaviour ? why the dfu icon not shows in the app in beginning? 

anyway dfu function is working properly. It would be great if any explanation on it so that I can fix if any issue there...

It is nRF Connect Desktop --> Bluetooth Low Energy  (with Dongle), the peripheral application is with custom services and characteristics (I used the buttlonless dfu example as template and made a custom service and characteristics for dfu). In total I am able to do dfu by writing 0x01 in to my custom characteristics (trigger) so the peripheral switches to dfu mode. but the dfu icon not shows in my custom application but it appears after switching to dfu mode.
