I am suffering a very similar problem as to case 280113 (ERROR Error when fetching device versions: readFwInfo error (Origin: "Error when running nrfdl_fw_read_info")) and I was wanting to see if there are any updates or changes that assist me in programming an nRF52840 Dongle.
Below I have collected the details of software versions and the procedure that I have been through to get the system to work correctly and collect log reports etc.
As an aside I have repeated this exact same procedure for the nRF52840DK and managed to successfully program the blinky App into the device.
Any guidance on curing this issue is greatly appreciated.

Software versions:
nRF Connect for Desktop version 3.12.0
Programmer version 3.0.4
The procedure I followed is as follows:
1. Start nRF Connect for Desktop
2. Start Programmer
3. Attached nRF52840 Dongle to USB, red LED pulsing every second
4. Pressed reset button
5. SELECT DEVICE -> Open DFU Bootloader D7BA81B22774
6. Error log is shown below
7. Collected detailed error message and shown below
8. Collected System Report - shown below.
9. Performed nrfjprog --recover
ERROR: No debuggers were discovered.
NOTE: For additional output, try running again with logging enabled (--log).
NOTE: Any generated log error messages will be displayed.
10. Repeated for two different dongles: PCA10059 1.2.0 2019.41 and PCA10059 2.1.0 2022.9
Exactly the same result
11. Repeated for nRF52840DK device: PCA10056 2.0.0 2019.48
