nRF Connect for Desktop as a Client to test Bluetooth 5 Device as a Server

Is it possible to use nRF Connect for Desktop (currently running v2.3.1) with the nRF52840 dongle to test Bluetooth 5 features on a Server like LE 2Mbps data rate, Advertising Extensions, Extended Scan, and Extended Connections?

Thanks,

Vince

  • Hi Vincent

The Desktop app does not work as a BLE central/peripheral by itself, and you'll have to connect an nRF device to the computer (like the 52840 Dongle or a DK for example) in order to use the nRFConnect app like this. You'll have to program the BLE device to operate in the intended PHY. Please check out our Long Range Demo for more info on Coded PHY. Please note that the Dongle antenna is not very well suited for operation in Coded PHY, and you can't expect the same ranged that is achieved with the nRF52840 DK in the long range demo.

    Best regards,
