Problem adding Thingy:91 in the nRF Cloud

Hello,

I try to add a Thingy:91 to the nRF Cloud after I received it today. The sim card got's activated without a problem. When I try to key in my IMEI and the Pin which is printed on the label I receive this error: "There was an error adding your device. It wasn't found. Is it connected?"

How to solve this and add the device to my account?

  • Hi!

Can you confirm that the Thingy:91 is on and the LED is blue and blinking.

    Best regards,

    Heidi

  • Hi Heidi,

I think it is more like a blue-withe breathing in a two seconds on and around 5 seconds off interval.

  • Also, after going back to the at_client firmware, the certificates are gone. I have to upload them again.

  • Hi, it can take a while for the initial connection. Please wait at least 10 minutes and then attach the output.

  • Hi ,

Thanks for the effort. It is finally connected to my Cloud Account. Raised hands tone3 .

One last favor for the time being, can you link me the source code of the thingy91_nbiot_legacy_pco_v0.2.2.hex I have installed now. I think this would be a good base for me to start my own code. Innocent

  • Hi,

I got my Thingy:91 today. I am at the same problem - Unable to use the SIM card to connect anywhere. I used another SIM card which has LTE, unfortunately I do not see the Thingy91 connecting at all.

I connected the device via USB cable, tried the nRF programmer app. I get the error- no USB device found. But when I use the LTE Link Monitor, I do see the device trying to search for networks ( i assume).

Could you perhaps help or share on how to make this device work  ?.

    Kind regards

    Candy

  • Hi,

I think to use the Programmer App on the thingy:91 you need either a jlink device (https://www.segger.com/products/debug-probes/j-link/) or the nrf9160 dk (https://www.nordicsemi.com/?sc_itemid=%7B85BE3024-A887-4410-8F78-E71CD60B3A5E%7D) to flash it.

But you might insert the second sim you mentioned (not the iBasis), connect to your pc, start the lte link monitor, choose the correct com port and let it rest for at least 15 minutes.

I'm not sure how much I'm responsible for this trouble by myself, because I tried a lot of AT+... commands in the beginning and I might broke something on my own...

  • Hi Tim,

I tried the  second SIM - same status. I tried the second SIM also on a hotspot device and I am able to get to the internet. Then I tried the iBase SIM card on the hotspot device.I am able to connect via EPlus - In an open terrace, I am able to get a good signal - South of Heidelberg, Germany.

This tells me- something is not set properly with the Thingy 91.I am wondering how could I debug this.

    Kind regards
