Questions regarding CONEVAL

Hi team,

i first of all want to thank you, for your support and help so far.

I have some questions regarding the values that are been given by the AT command %CONEVAL:

1. How are the values been measured?

2. How do they depend on each other?

3. Which of these values depend on the network quality?

4. Which of these values can i manually affect?

5. How do they affect the current consumption of the device (nrf9160 DK)?

I hope my questions are not too confusingly asked

None, of these can be affected by application. Most of the values in the %CONEVAL are network supplied, and RSRP, RSPQ and SNR are calculated in modem based on provided values. 

5. How do they affect the current consumption of the device (nrf9160 DK)?

There are many variables that impacts the current consumption e.g. TX  power, signal strength, among others.

I'm afraid based on these answers your other questions are no longer valid.

And in what ways do they affect the energy consumption or what correlation do they have with the energy consumption?

For example if the value of tx_power increase what happen to the energy consumption, does it increase or decrease?

Higher TX power increases the energy consumption. The same goes for low signal strength.

It's a little more complicated describing the values provided by network and the results of %CONEVAL.  

What are your intensions of the %CONEVAL usage?

But isn't that what the CONEVAL command does?
"The Nordic-proprietary %CONEVAL command requests an evaluation of the LTE radio signal state and an estimation of the energy efficiency in a cell that the modem would use for data transmission. The information can be used to determine the energy efficiency of data transmission before actual data transmission is started. The %CONEVAL command is the most useful for a static or slow-moving device."

<energy_estimate>Relative estimated energy consumption of data transmission compared to nominal consumption. A higher value means smaller energy consumption.

5 – Bad conditions. Difficulties in setting up connections. Maximum number of repetitions might be needed for data.

6 – Poor conditions. Setting up a connection might require retries and a higher number of repetitions for data.

7 – Normal conditions for cIoT device. No repetitions for data or only a few repetitions in the worst case.

8 – Good conditions. Possibly very good conditions for small amounts of data.

9 – Excellent conditions. Efficient data transfer estimated also for larger amounts of data.
